Hot Stone Massage: What to Expect and Is It Right for You?

Body Sky Wellness · JLT Dubai · June 2026

Hot stone massage is one of the most requested treatments at Body Sky Wellness — and one of the most misunderstood. Many guests are uncertain about what actually happens, whether it will be too hot, or whether it's the right choice for their needs.

This guide answers all of those questions.

What actually happens during a hot stone massage?

Smooth basalt volcanic stones are heated to a carefully controlled temperature — warm enough to penetrate deep into muscle tissue but never uncomfortably hot. The stones are placed on key points along the body: typically the spine, shoulders, palms, between the toes and along the legs. Your therapist then uses additional heated stones as tools, gliding them across muscles with warm oil.

The heat from the stones does something hands alone cannot — it penetrates deep into the muscle fibres and connective tissue, creating a melting sensation that releases tension at a level that feels almost cellular.

Will it be too hot?

This is the most common concern from first-time guests. The answer is no — if you're at a quality spa with trained therapists. Our therapists test every stone before it touches your skin, and the temperature is carefully managed throughout the session. If at any point a stone feels too warm, simply let your therapist know and they will adjust immediately.

The heat should feel deeply pleasurable — like the warmth of sunlight going directly into your muscles. If it ever feels sharp or burning, it's too hot. A good therapist anticipates this before you need to say anything.

The benefits that make it worth it

Who should avoid hot stone massage?

Hot stone massage is not suitable for everyone. Please inform your therapist before booking if you have any of the following conditions:

If you are unsure, consult your doctor before booking. For everyone else, hot stone massage is completely safe and deeply beneficial.

Hot stone vs regular massage — which should you choose?

Choose hot stone if your muscles feel deeply tight and conventional massage hasn't given you lasting relief. The heat penetrates in a way hands simply cannot replicate. Choose regular oil massage if your concern is primarily stress and mental relaxation rather than physical tension.

Many of our regular guests alternate between the two — Thai massage or aromatherapy oil on lighter weeks, hot stone on weeks when the body has been under significant physical or emotional strain.
